New Vintage Resale Items

My sister , Richard and I have been busy shopping over the past several weeks. We have been to garage sales, estates, Goodwill and other thrift store.

One our favorites is located in Park Ridge, Illinois, USA. Avenues provides assistance to people with developmental disabilities. They also feature items crafted by those individuals. They have reasonable prices and a great selection. The shop is smaller than most and has limited hours.

We also visit many of the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores oin the area. They typically have a great selection with many items to choose from

The places we find the most items, lately have been estate sales. My sister and Richard, our friend and roommate, have been going to these regularly and find a great deal of items at them. Some of them don’t have a great selection, or are over priced. But they have found some sought after items and some are valuable as well.

They have found depression glass, crystal, uranium glass, some beautiful glass figurines, fine art and some very nice needlework art.

A pie plate by Williams-Sonoma, EUC. Can be used for baking or as autumn decor. Great kitchen accent

The ice bucket is a mid century modern piece, sometimes referenced as MCM. It is from the Aptco company. It has a faux wood grain design and a great plastic lining in excellent used condition, EUC.

This is a pretty decorative glass apple, not sure what era or who manufactured it. Glass Fruit always seems popular

These turtles are labeled as “Bombay” so they may have been made in India. They are actually tealight candle holders. the lady at the estate sale said a very tiny turtle, not pictured, came with them. They are brass and enamel

A Rae Dunn Mug. Always very wanted, a BOLO. Be On The Look Out for these

Check out this fabulous Kate Spade Bag, Always a favorite, I think her pink bags sell the best

This one is beige and either dark brown or black. Fantastic shoulder Tote for business or daywear. We also have one of her wallets

Depression era glass dinner plates. Pressed glass. Jeanette or Indiana glass in amber, beautifully kept plates, EUC, 5 Available. This is also known as carnival glass because the glass pieces were given as prizes at carnivals. One of the most fsmous manufaturers of this type glass was Fenton.

This is a fine example of uranium glass. Yes! Not only does it glow. But this type of glass is actually slightly radioactive. However it is safe to handle AND can be eaten off of. This glass is made from uranium salts and for that reason has no more radioactivity than the amount we are exposed to during any given day. The cold war era ended production of this type of glass because of restrictions placed on the uranium.

I understand Ebay no longer will allow it to be sold.

The company who made this plate is McKee. I also have a pair of egg cups

We had a Citrus juicer but it sold very quickly

I think the photo captures the glow these pieces have under black light

Here is what is one of our most popular items. Corningware Blue Cornflower bakeware. They stopped production of this pattern in, I believe, 2005, if I remember correctly. As a result of this these pieces not only have sky rocketed in price. But also are becoming less available as people are holding on to them for lack of new production.

Now I am not being funny at all when I tell you I have seen some pieces listed in excess of $10,000. I think the cause of this was when one piece in the spice of life pattern sold at auction for I believe $10,000 or more. This was because it truly was a rare piece, possibly one of a kind.

Melamine was a popular type of product dating to the mid century,MCM, it is still made today. These items are from the Royalco company. The pieces include. Butter dish, divide vegetable dishes, dinner plates, cups and bowls. These are selling fast. The color, Lilac goes well with their corsage pattern, lovely pieces, white with flowers, not pictured.
